Abstract
The phenomenon of social media has become one of the most influential forces shaping contemporary linguistic development. This paper examines the transformative role of digital communication platforms in the evolution of English vocabulary. Drawing on linguistic theories and recent empirical studies, it analyzes the emergence of neologisms, abbreviations, and multimodal expressions that have originated within online discourse. The findings suggest that social media not only reflects but actively drives linguistic innovation, blurring the boundaries between formal and informal language registers. Furthermore, the study highlights the pedagogical and sociolinguistic implications of this process, emphasizing the need for educators and linguists to recognize the growing influence of online communication on the global English lexicon.
