Use of English. Level: B1

Hi Dad,

We’ve 1       [just, since, yet, for]1 arrived at the caravan park. We stopped at a few places on the way here, including a castle and a hill with beautiful views. I thought the castle was amazing, but the kids 2        [boring, bored, bore] 2 were there. They didn't find the castle 3             [interesting, interest, interested]3 . They just wanted to run around.

We had a few problems getting through the main gates. The owners of the caravan that we’ve rented told us that they 44             [will leave, would leave, left] a key for us at reception, but when we arrived, reception was closed and there was no-one there. We had to phone the owners and ask them where 5               [they had left, leave, had they left] 5 the key. In the end, someone from the shop helped us get into reception and pick up the key.

Well, the caravan park is very different from how I remember it. Since the last time we 6           [were, are, has been, have gone] here, it has doubled in size! A new swimming pool has been built , and there is also another bar. I wish I had known about that when I booked the caravan. We’re really close to it and it is 7        [so, such, such a, like] noisy that I don’t think I will sleep well tonight. I 8       [had, would, have]better buy some earplugs when I get the chance, otherwise I’m going to be very grumpy this trip. If I 9           [had known, knew, will know] about the pool, I wouldn't have rented this caravan.

I 10              [haven`t seen, have seen, didn`t see] Aunt Jane and Uncle Robert yet, although I know they are somewhere in the caravan park! Their caravan is number 73, 11            [isn`t it, isn`t they, are they] ? I’ll probably look for them tomorrow and invite them to dinner while we are here.

About twenty-five years ago, the results of an exciting new study were reported in the news: If children listen to the music of Mozart, they 1               [became, will become, would  become] more intelligent. Immediately, huge numbers of Mozart CDs were purchased by people 2 2         [which, who, what] wanted their children to be smarter. The statement was generally assumed to be true. After all, 3 3              [the most of, most of, most] people think Mozart was a genius, and maybe if we listened to his music, his intelligence 4             [ had better, might, should] transfer to us.

I didn't know how difficult it was to stop smoking, or drinking alcohol, because I 1                [had never been, wasn't, ever was] never addicted to anything, but when I stopped eating sugar, I realised that sugar is a very powerful drug. I think it 2                 [must be, have been, would have been] easier if I had been addicted to nicotine, for example, instead of sugar. The first few weeks or months I used to dream that I was eating chocolate or cakes, and then I 3            [woke up, wake up, was waking] in the morning and my body was crying for sugar.
