A Terrifying Night: The Flood in Riverdale

Last autumn a small town called Riverdale experienced one of the worst floods in its history. For several days the weather had been unusually warm and rainy. The river near the town slowly began to rise, but many people didn’t think the situation was dangerous.

On Friday evening the rain suddenly became much heavier. The wind grew stronger and the river quickly overflowed its banks. Within a few hours water began to enter the streets and gardens near the river.

Local authorities warned people to stay inside their homes and move to higher floors if possible. Some families decided to leave the town before the water reached their houses. Others stayed because they believed the flood would stop soon.

During the night the situation became worse. Water reached the centre of the town and several roads became impossible to use. Emergency teams arrived and helped elderly people and children leave their houses safely.

Fortunately, nobody died in the disaster, but many houses were badly damaged and several cars were completely destroyed. After the flood, people worked together to clean the streets and repair their homes.

Even today, many residents say they will never forget that frightening night.
