Living on a boat

I’m an actor and I decided to move to London last year because the theatres around the centre are where it’s easiest for me to find work. I rented a flat for six months, but it was very expensive. I wanted to live here, but I knew I’d never be able to buy a house. Then I heard about houseboats. I loved the idea of making my home on a boat – cooking, watching TV and sleeping on the river just sounded amazing.

Before buying my houseboat, I spent six months learning about them. That helped me decide what kind of houseboat was right for me. It’s important to plan how to use the space on the boat. And then there’s the practical side of things – how to heat your boat and water, for example. There’s a lot to think about and there are lots of boats to choose from, so talking to friends was really useful.
