From Factory to Table
Modern food production is a complex process. Take orange juice, for example. The oranges are pulled off the trees and sent to a factory where they are washed and dried. Any bad oranges are thrown away. After the fruit is cut in half, the juice is removed by a machine. To make it last longer (up to 8 months), the juice is heated to 94°С before being put into cartons.
Breakfast cereals follow a similar industrial path. They are made from grains like corn or wheat. In the factory, the grain is cleaned, prepared, and mixed with other ingredients. Water is added, and the mixture is boiled. Once it's soft, special machines create shapes like stars or circles. These shapes are then baked in an oven to dry them. Finally, they are often covered with sugar or honey. While cereals started as a health food, many today contain 50% sugar, which doctors worry about.
