New York
New York is probably the most famous city in the USA. From 1785-1790 New York was the capital of the USA. “The Big apple” is a nickname of the city. New York is situated in the state of New York. The population of it is more than 8 million people. About 800 languages are spoken there.
New York consists of 5 main boroughs. The boroughs differ greatly both in area and in population. Manhattan is the smallest but the most densely populated borough. It’s the city’s financial, cultural and historic centre. Queens is the largest of the five. The most populous borough is Brooklyn.
New York subway is one of the most complex subway systems in the world.
There are lots of sites in “the Big Apple”. The iconic Statue of Liberty is known to everybody in the world. It is located on Liberty Island. The statue was presented to American citizens by France to commemorate the centenary of US independence. French sculptor Frederic Augusto Bartholdi designed the statue.
Washington Square Park is one of the well-known public parks in New York. Times Square is one of the most popular landmarks in the USA. New York is a very beautiful city and it is certainly worth visiting.
