The Christmas Wish
It was Christmas Eve, and eleven-year-old Mia was looking out her frosty bedroom window. Snowflakes danced in the moonlight, and the world looked magical. Yet, Mia wasn’t smiling. This year felt different. Her parents were busy, her little brother had broken her favorite ornament, and she just didn’t feel the holiday cheer.
With a sigh, she whispered to the stars, “I wish I could find the real magic of Christmas.”
As soon as she spoke, a soft glow appeared by her windowsill. A tiny figure, no bigger than her hand, fluttered into her room. It was a Christmas fairy, dressed in sparkling green and red.
“Hello, Mia,” the fairy said with a warm smile. “I’m Holly. I heard your wish, and I’m here to help.”
Mia asked. “Are you real?!”
“Of course,” Holly said. “But the real magic of Christmas isn’t in presents or decorations. Let’s go find it.” She waved her wand, and in a flash, Mia found herself in her neighbour Mrs. Willow’s cozy kitchen.
Mrs. Willow was baking cookies all by herself. She looked lonely. “Why are we here?” Mia asked.
“To help,” Holly whispered.
Mia stepped forward. “Mrs. Willow, can I help you bake?”
Mrs. Willow’s face lit up with joy. Together, they rolled dough, sprinkled sugar, and laughed as flour flew everywhere.
Next, Holly brought Mia to the town square, where a group of carolers struggled to stay warm. Mia joined them, her clear voice leading the songs, warming their hearts as much as the cocoa they shared afterward.
Finally, Holly took Mia home, where her little brother sat sadly by the broken ornament. Mia knelt beside him. “It’s okay,” she said, hugging him tightly. “We can make a new one together.”
As they worked on their craft, laughter filled the room.
Holly smiled and whispered, “Now you’ve found it.”
“What?” Mia asked.
“The real magic of Christmas,” Holly replied. “Kindness, love, and sharing joy.”
And with that, Holly disappeared, leaving behind a tiny golden star on the tree.
That Christmas, Mia felt the magic in every hug, smile, and song—and she knew she’d carry it with her always.
