Hi Daniel,
I haven’t written to you for a while because I was preparing for something really unusual. Last weekend, I took part in a three-day survival camp in a remote forest area. My older brother told me about it a few months ago and said it would be a great challenge. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go, but in the end I decided to try something new.
When we arrived, the instructors explained that we wouldn’t have any modern comforts. We had to switch off our phones and keep them in our bags during the whole camp. There was no electricity, no internet and no proper beds. Instead, we had to build our own shelters using branches, leaves and other natural materials we could find around us.
The first day was the hardest because it was cold and rainy. Everything was wet, and it took us a long time to make a fire. Some students felt like giving up, but the instructors encouraged us to keep trying. They didn’t do the tasks for us, but they gave us useful advice and showed us basic survival techniques.
On the second day, things became easier. We learned how to find clean water and cook simple food outdoors. In the evening, we sat around the fire and shared stories. It was actually one of the best moments of the whole experience.
On the final day, we had to complete a group challenge. We worked together to build a strong shelter and make a fire in less than thirty minutes. Although it was difficult, our team managed to do it successfully.
At the end of the camp, we didn’t get any prizes or certificates, but we all felt proud of ourselves. I realised that I can be more independent than I thought. It was a tough experience, but I would definitely do it again.
What about you? Would you ever try something like this?
Best wishes,
Ryan
Ryan decided immediately to join the camp.
