Topic: TV programmes. Past Simple. Listening and speaking activities.

Objectives:

- to present new vocabulary (types of films);

- to consolidate new vocabulary;

- to involve pupils into reading, writing, listening and communicative

activities;

- to develop pupils’ memory, imagination, attention and

creativeness;

Equipment: pictures (types of films), class CD1, books and workbooks “English Plus 3”, word puzzles for games, multimedia presentation, grammar table (Past Simple).

Procedure.

  1. Introduction.

    • Good morning, boys and girls! Nice to meet you in our English lesson.

    • What do we usually do in our free time? Well, we read books and magazines, listen to music, walk with our friends and watch TV.

    • So, our lesson will be connected with TV programmes, especially with films. We’ll speak about types of films, work over some texts, do different tasks, speak about your favourite films.

  1. Warming–up.

Let’s remember what kinds of films do you know. What actors do you know? What are your favourite actors?

  1. Learning new vocabulary. (Presentation "Types of programmes").

a) Well, let’s say:

    • a funny film is a comedy.

    • a comedy can be romantic.

    • a film about cowboys is called western.

    • a film with songs is musical.

    • a film which frightens you is called horror.

    • a film for children is a cartoon.

    • a film which often makes an exciting story about crime and police is thriller.

    • a film where you can live with characters in the travels is an adventure film.

    • a film with magic is fantasy.

    • a program, which presents facts about a person, an animal or event is documentary.

    • a film which has facts which you can’t explain is science fiction.

b) Word puzzle. You have to find out the types of programmes.
