Shatsk National Nature Park
An amazing corner of Polissya, where dense forests, clean lakes, swamps and meadows are combined. Natural pine forests with green mosses and blueberry bushes fascinate with their beauty. And among the forests are 23 picturesque lakes. This is one of the largest lake groups in Europe. The largest lake in the park and the deepest in Ukraine is Svityaz. The waves here in windy weather reach even a meter high. When the weather is sunny, the bottom of the lake is visible at a depth of several meters.
Shatsk National Nature Park is an ideal place for bird watching. During migrations, about 80 thousand birds rest on the lakes and nearby. Here it is worth swimming in the lakes, enjoying the sun on the beaches, tasting cheesecakes, blueberry pancakes, living in campsites, riding a bike through the forests. On Lake Luky you can kayak among entire “flower fields” of yellow pitchers and white water lilies.
And before you go, remember Lesya Ukrainka's play “Forest Song.” In her letters while she was being treated in Georgia, where she wrote the work, the author recalls: “It seems to me that I simply remembered our forests and yearned for them. And I had also “held” that Mavka in my mind for a long time… On a moonlit night, I would run alone into the forest (none of you knew that) and there I would wait for Mavka to appear to me.”
