Age group: 5th form

Topic: Nature and Weather

Aim: to make students recognize the words on the topic «Nature and Weather» while reading, then reproduce/pronounce them correctly and use in speech situation.



  • to enrich students’ vocabulary on the topic Nature and Weather while reading;

  • to make learners participate in common conversational exchange about the topic of the lesson;


  • to develop learners’ memory while practicing new vocabulary;

  • to develop collaborative skills working in pairs.


- to develop learners’ creativity in presenting their ideas;

- to teach students to be tolerant to other people’s opinions.


- to enrich students’ knowledge on the topical issues;

- to broaden students’ outlook.

Materials: pictures, handouts, books, vocabularies, chalk, blackboard.


I. Greeting. Introduction. (1 min)

T: Good morning, pupils! I’m glad to see you here. I’m sure you are ready for active work today.

Ss: Good morning teacher! We’re glad to see you too!

T: I hope we’ll have a wonderful time together. Let’s begin our lesson. Today we are going to work at the topic “Nature and Weather”.

II. Warming-up (4 min)

Teacher asks a few questions.

T: What’s the weather like today?

S1: The weather is rainy.

T: What is the weather you like?

S2: I like when it snows especially on New Year’s!

S3: I like snow too when the weather is good and holidays are coming soon.

T: Do you like rainy weather?

Students answer.

T: Let’s sing a song about rainy weather ( HO1).

Students sing a song.

Rain, Rain.

Go away.

Come again another day.

DADDY wants to play.

Rain, rain, go away.

Rain, Rain.

Go away.

Come again another day.

MOMMY wants to play.

Rain, rain, go away.

Rain, Rain.

Go away.

Come again another day.

III. The main body of the lesson.

Vocabulary Practice (15 min)

Teacher write new words down on the blackboard, shows some pictures, name them and students repeat them after the teacher. Than students have to work with a dictionary and find the meanings of new words.

Cloud/cloudy, cold, hot, fog/foggy, wind/windy, rain/rainy, snow/snowy, storm, sun/sunny, warm.

T: Today we’re going to learn new words. Listen to me attentively and repeat after me.


T: Cloud/cloudy

Ss: Cloud/cloudy

T: Rain/rainy

Ss: Rain/rainy

T: Snow/snowy

Ss: Snow/snowy

T: Sun/sunny

Ss: Sun/sunny

T: Now on the blackboard you can see a lot of pictures of different weather. Let's play a game. You will receive a card with a picture of the weather. You should say that you dress when it is, for example, rainy weather. (HO2)


When outside the sunny weather, I wear a T-shirt, shorts and sandals.

Reading Practice (20 min)

  1. Pre-reading activity.

Questions. T→Ss

T: Look at the pictures on the page 99. Read three postcards (1–3) and match them with the pictures (A, B, and C).

Students answer.

2. While-reading stage.

Students read the sentences and choose right items to complete the sentences (HO2).

T: Let’s complete the sentences on the page 100.

Possible problem: Early finishers.

Solution: Teacher gives them the answers to check individually.

  1. Post-reading stage.

T: Look at the picture and say what children can do on such a day using the word-combinations below the picture. (HO3)

Students speak one by one till everyone answers.

IV. Round off (5 min).

  1. Home assignment: Ex. 6, p. 101; to repeat vocabulary.

  2. Summing up.

T: Unfortunately, time is up. I really appreciate you being so active! You all did a very good job and will get good marks. Have a good rest! Goodbye!
