ПЛАН-КОНСПЕКТ ЗАЛІКОВОГО УРОКУ З АНГЛІЙСЬКОЇ МОВИ

ДЛЯ УЧНІВ 9 КЛАСУ

НА ТЕМУ: «ЇЖА ТА НАПОЇ»

Time: 45 min

Level: Intermediate

Age group: 9h form

Topic: Food and Drinks

Aim: to make students recognize the words on the topic «Food and Drinks» while reading, then reproduce/pronounce them correctly and use in speech situation.

Objectives:

Practical:

  • to enrich students’ vocabulary on the topic Food and Drinks while reading;

  • to make learners participate in common conversational exchange about the topic of the lesson;

Developmental:

  • to develop learners’ memory while practicing new vocabulary;

  • to develop collaborative skills working in pairs.

Educational:

- to develop learners’ creativity in presenting their ideas;

- to teach students to be tolerant to other people’s opinions.

Cultural:

- to enrich students’ knowledge on the topical issues;

- to broaden students’ outlook.

Materials: pictures, handouts, books, vocabularies, chalk, blackboard.

Procedure

I. Greeting. Introduction. (1 min)

T: How are you today?

Ss: We are fine, thank you!

T: I hope we’ll have a wonderful time together. Let’s begin our lesson. Today we are going to work at the topic “Food and Drinks”. You’ll learn new words and find out what food we must eat to be healthy, how to make your healthy diet and speak about the right food, our habits of eating.

II. Warming-up (4 min)

Teacher asks a few questions.

T: How many meals a day do you have?

S1: I have three meals a day: the breakfast, the dinner and the supper.

T: Can you cook?

S2: Yes, I can. I always help my mother cooking.

S3: As for me, I can’t cooking.

T: Do you like potato chips?

Students answer.

T: Let’s read a poem «Potato Chips» by Anthony Gallagher ( HO1).

Students read a poem.

Potato Chips
A potato chip is something
Never ceasing to amuse.
I love it's funny wrinkles
And the crunch way it chews.

T: Now tell me why a potato chip is something never ceasing to amuse?

Students answer.

III. The main body of the lesson.

Vocabulary Practice (15 min)

Teacher writes new words down on the blackboard, shows some pictures, name them and students repeat them after the teacher. Than students have to work with a dictionary and find the meanings of new words.

Either, cornflakes, bones, vitamins, important, wealth.

T: Today we’re going to learn new words. Listen to me attentively and repeat after me.

Example: T: Either

Ss: Either

T: We cannot live without food either.

Ss: We cannot live without food either.

T: Please, find the meaning of this word in the vocabulary. You see we use the word “either” in the meaning «теж, також» in the negative sentences.

T: Сornflakes.

Ss: Сornflakes

Т: I think that you’ve guessed the meaning of this word and many of you like cornflakes.

T: Bones. (Teacher shows the picture, students repeat after the teacher and work with a dictionary)

Ss: Bones.

T: You see, vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, cheese make our bones and teeth strong.

T: Vitamins. (Teacher shows the picture, students repeat after the teacher and work with a dictionary)

Ss: Vitamins.

T: Vegetables and fruit have got a lot of vitamins.

T: Important.

Ss: Important.

T: Vitamins are very important for our eyes, bones, hair and so on. If you don’t guess the meaning of the word “important” find it in the vocabulary.

T: Wealth.

Ss: Wealth.

T: We often think that wealth is very important in modern life but good health is above wealth. We cannot buy our health at any money. That’s why we have to take care of our health. We have to go in for sport and of course to eat the right food.

Reading Practice (20 min)

  1. Pre-reading activity.

Questions. T→Ss

T: Look at the pictures on page 56. Which of these products do you like to eat? Are all of them good for health? Which are not very healthy?

Students answer.

T: Talk about the pictures as in the example (in pairs). S1S2

Example.
A: What products do you like to eat?
B: I like fruit. I usually have an apple or a banana in my lunch box. I also like to eat tasty things, such as chocolate and sweets. My mom says I mustn’t eat a lot of these.

  1. While-reading stage.

Students read the text «Eat the right food» on p. 57-58 and complete the table (HO2).

T: Let’s read the text and complete the table.

Possible problem: Early finishers.

Solution: Teacher gives them the answers to check individually.

Eat the Right Food

People cannot leave without food. Animals, fish, birds and plants cannot leave without food either.

There are different kinds of food. Some kinds of food like bread, sugar, meat, butter, cheese and rice make you strong and give you energy.

Meat, fish and milk help you to grow. Vegetables, eggs and cornflakes make your bones and teeth strong. You should eat vegetables and fruit because they have got a lot of vitamins. Vitamins are important for your eyes, skin, bones, hair and for other parts of your body. There are thirteen types of vitamins (A, B, C and so on).

Eat the right food! Remember the proverb m «Good health is above wealth».

KEY: Food that…

makes you strong and gives energy – sugar, bread, meat, butter, cheese and rice.

help you to grow – meat, fish, milk.

makes your bones and teeth strong – vegetables, eggs and cornflakes.

has a lot of vitamins – vegetables and fruit.

T: Are you agree with these statements? If you do not agree, explain. Prove your ideas. (HO3)

T: Today you’ve worked very hard, many of you have been very active. Also you have learnt what food we must eat to be healthy and how to make your healthy diet. Let’s remember and name as many healthy products as we can.

Students enumerate healthy products and the teacher writes them down on the blackboard.

T: That will do for today. Have a good rest! Goodbye!
