Kids like this activity. They like to guess fruit using the sense of touch and imagination. The game has created a positive learning environment and allowed children to learn fruit and to answer the questions through playing. Using of tactile feelings in learning helps young children to learn new words faster.

Name of the activity: "Feeling Fruit Bag".

Age group: 5-7

Aim: to practice vocabulary/grammar on the topic.

Materials:

- not transparent bag

- fruit which children have already learnt (e.g. 2 apples,2 bananas,2 oranges, 2 lemons, 2 pears, 2 plums or others) enough for each participant.

Procedure:

Teacher invites pupils to sit down in a circle. S/He takes Fruit bag and joins others with such words: "I like fruit. And I have a big Fruit Bag. Look at it. What is in it?(children try to guess) Ok. Let's check!" Teacher shows an example how to play- puts one hand in the bag without looking in it, chooses one fruit but doesn't take it out (holding fruit in the hand inside the bag) and say:"I have a banana". Only then s/he takes hand with fruit in it from the bag and say: "I like bananas/I don’t like bananas."Then teacher invites pupils one by one to do the same thing asking them: "Guess what do you have in your hand? Do you like...(name of the fruit)?" If child gives a right answer s/he takes this fruit if s/he is wrong kid has to put it back to bag (I give those children an opportunity to try again when everyone has taken part).

What learning styles this activity addresses:

For kinesthetic learners: guessing fruit using the sense of touch

For visual learners: kids could see fruits when they’ve got them from the bag

For auditory learners: Teacher’s commands, questions and answers

Our comment:

Kids like this activity. They like to guess fruit using the sense of touch and imagination. The game has created a positive learning environment and allowed children to learn fruit and to answer the questions through playing. Using of tactile feelings in learning helps young children to learn new words faster. Even the weakest students until the end are able to make a sentence using the structure "I have...","I like.../I don't like..." because they have heard it several times.

There are a lot of varieties of this game depend on what language skills teacher wants to improve or to revise. Teacher might use this bag again just changing its name and contents. For example when you will learn toys it will be "Toys Bag Game" etc. Children also could describe the objects which they've got from the bag (colour, size, etc.).
