Мета заняття: Практичні: 1)навчити одержувати основну інформацію з прочитаного тексту; 2)розвивати вміння монологічного мовлення.

Освітня: ознайомити з проблемами навколишнього середовища, розширити їх кругозір по даній темі та прилучити до захисту природи.

Розвиваюча: розвивати пам’ять, увагу, мислення та мовленнєві здібності.

Виховна: виховувати шанобливе ставлення до природи, привити почуття відповідальності за вирішення проблем навколишнього середовища.

  • speak about different environmental problems and the ways of their solving;

  • know what we can do to save our planet ;

  • understand how it is important to live in harmony with nature;

  • do everything you can to avoid the pollution on the local and global levels.

  • So, let’s start our lesson.

  1. Vocabulary

- Let’s see what words we shall use during the lesson. Some of them are known for you and some are not.

  • Pollution – the contamination of the environment by substances harmful to living creations.

  • Recycle – make new things from different kinds of litter.

  • Litter, trash, waste, rubbish, garbage - things that you throw away, such as empty bottles, used papers, food that has gone bad etc.

  • Rainforest – rich woodland which occurs in warm climate and high rainfalls regions.

  • Destroy - to damage something so badly that it no longer exists or cannot be used or repaired.

  • Poacher – a man who kills animals illegally.

  • Arson - the crime of deliberately making something burn.

  • Distress - a situation when smth is in danger and needs help.

  • Deforestation - the cutting or burning down of all the trees in an area.

Please, write down these words in your vocabularies.

  1. Brainstorming

  • How do you think what problem is the main in the row of environmental problems?

Pollution is one of the most serious problems of our environment. Our planet suffers from different kinds of pollutions. Look at the screen and name some of them. Use pictures to activate your brain.

  • Now let’s talk about some kinds of pollution. Please note information to your copybooks while listening.

  • One of the tips for us to shorten air pollution is changing the way of travelling. Use bikes or electric cars or walk if it is possible.

  • Another way of protecting our environment is using alternative natural energy resources:

  • Solar energy

  • Hydropower energy

  • Geothermal energy

  • Wind energy

  • Biomass energy

  • Recycling is really good way to keep our planet more clean, to save energy and natural resources.

  • Most types of plastic are recyclable.

  • Papers make up 40-50% of landfill space instead of being recycled.

  • Glass can be recycled or reused over and over again.

  • Old clothes can be reused as rags or for art projects.

  • Old wood can be reused, fixed and given away or used as fuel for fireplace.

  • Aluminum is easy to recycle and make into new things.

  • Tin can be recycled and quickly made into new things.

  • Trash: some things are not recyclable but they make up a small percentage of what is thrown away.

  1. Listening

Now we know what we should do for our planet on the local level. But we can’t solve all environmental problems on the global level. Many people in the world try to do as much as possible to save our planet. One of such persons was world famous American pop-singer Michael Jackson. Listen to “Earth Song” devoted to the global environmental problems written by him. I’ll give you worksheets with lyrics of this song. But there are gaps in them. While listening you have to write down missed words. Try to understand what this song is about. Pay attention to the words which may be unknown for you.

  • Gain - to obtain or achieve something you want or need.

  • Weep - to cry, especially because you feel very sad.

  • Pledge - to make a formal promise that you will do something.

  • Glance - to quickly look at someone or something.

  • Beyond - on or to the further side of something.

  • Drift - to move, change, or do something without any plan or purpose.

  • You’ve listened to only the first part of the song. Now you’ll listen to the full version of it

  1. Deforestation as a result of cutting and forest fires;

  2. Killing animals by poachers;

  • I’ve got some information about facts of shooting this video. I think it will be interesting for you to learn about it

The “Earth Song” music video was shot on four continents, all of which are in some form of distress created by man and his technology.
Locations include:

  1. Group work (making projects)

Now let’s organize four groups for making projects. I need one representative from each group to choose the picture from the backboard. Each group has to write down the list of recommendations for people what they can do to avoid problems illustrated by the pictures. You can decorate your sheet if you like. While making your projects you may listen to the sounds of nature. May be they will inspire you and you can relax a little.

  1. Use waste bins for litter. Don’t throw it on the ground.

  2. Keep territory around your house, school etc clean.

  3. Recycle everything we can.

  4. Try to buy products without plastic packaging.

  1. Plant a tree.

  2. Don’t cut trees.

  3. Reuse wooden things.

  4. Use recycled paper and recycle it.

  5. Be careful with fire in the woods.

  1. Keep rivers, lakes and seas clean.

  1. Don’t use chemicals which can pollute soil or water.

  1. Don’t waste water, be economical.

  1. Help animals which suffers from pollution.

  1. Be careful with oil products. Don’t let them to get into water or soil.

  1. Walk or use a bike instead of car.

  1. Use filters and don’t let harmful gases get into air.

  1. Use alternative natural energy resources which are more ecological.

  1. Don’t burn leaves in autumn, it’s better to make compost of them.
