The Museum. Use of English. B1

The Natural History Museum is in Kensington, London. It is one of the most famous museums in England, not only for its …            [pictures, exhibits, ornaments, articles], but also because of the building itself.

It was originally built to display a collection of skeletons and        [fresh, dried] plants, as well as objects from the          [modern, ancient]world.

Over the years, the collection             [had grown, has grown, grew, is growing] enormously.

The museum                [broke down, took over, got over, looked through]twelve years to design and construct, and was finally completed in 1880.

Visitors           [had seen, has seen, saw] the inside for the first time a year later.

The building is an amazing sight. It is planned around an attractive main entrance and two towers, each with three          [shops, stores, storeys, stalls].

The walls are made of           [bricks, concrete, sand, glue] and completely decorated with blue-grey terracotta ornaments on the outside.

The interior is quite impressive. The arched doorway leads to a huge central hall with an enormous staircase which            [has risen, rose, is rising, rises] to the second floor.

Here the exhibition areas have iron and glass roofs which         [hides, expose, embrace, cover] the beautiful interior.

Visitors can enjoy more than 70 million            [instances, examples, specimen] or exhibits in the Life and Earth Galleries.

"Lasting Impressions" , the geological gallery, opened in 1988. With collections that          [embody, cover, embrace] the origin of man and the solar system to the present day, a visit will certainly be a memorable one.
