As the world’s population continues to grow, more people are moving into big cities. This urbanization creates many problems, such as air pollution, a lack of green spaces, and high energy consumption. To solve these issues, many countries are now building "Green Cities" — urban areas designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable.
In Europe, Copenhagen is a leader in green transport. The city has more bicycles than cars. Most citizens prefer cycling to work or school because the city has an extensive network of cycle paths. By 2025, Copenhagen aims to become the world’s first carbon-neutral capital. This means they want to balance the amount of carbon they produce with the amount they remove from the atmosphere. Another important part of green cities is waste management. In places like San Francisco, there are strict rules about recycling and composting. Instead of sending all their "garbage" to landfills, they reuse or recycle most of it. This process turns waste into new products or energy, which is a great way to protect the soil and water from pollution. However, building a green city is not just about technology; it’s about habits. People need to learn how to save water, reduce electricity use, and avoid "junk food" packaging that creates litter. If everyone makes small changes, our cities can become healthier places to live.
One of the best examples is Singapore. Known as a "City in a Garden," Singapore has integrated nature into its architecture. Many skyscrapers are covered in vertical gardens, which help to cool the buildings naturally and reduce the need for air conditioning. This not only saves energy but also improves the air quality for the people living there.
