I’m fond of learning about the cultures and traditions of different countries. I study history at university and plan to work at school - hope, reading these books will help me in my future work because I will know lots of interesting facts.

The Secret Story is an autobiographic book written by Elaine Porter, an archeologist who spent much time travelling around Brazil, Mexico and Peru discovering old villages and searching for ancient things for museums. Elaine also talked to local people who told her about their traditional holidays. She has even taken part in the Brazilian celebration of Festa Junina. She wrote about the history of these countries, their traditions, local dishes and legends.

2) Jim Collins, 15

My favourite lessons at school are Maths and Physics. I enjoy watching documentary films and reading books about the life of famous scientists and inventors. Last week I watched a documentary about Marie Curie, who discovered the chemical elements radium and polonium. However, I don’t like fantastic stories - I would like to learn about real people and their real life.

Friends Forever! is a book written by Monika Greyson who is a reporter for the BBC. She wrote a novel about young American engineer Hannah Herbst. When she was 14, she invented a simple and cheap water turbine to help her friend from Ethiopia provide her house with electricity. It helps them to be in touch.

3) Rose Whitehall, 17

I’m a university student now and spend all my time studying. When I have a little free time, I enjoy reading fantastic stories about space travels and life on other planets. It helps me relax. However, I prefer short stories because I usually have only a few hours a week for reading.

Trip Around Nordwood is a set of stories written by fantasy author Henry Johnson. These stories are about the group of space travellers who arrived to another planet - Nordwood and had to build a modern city there. The book consists of ten stories. They aren’t long, only eight-nine pages for each. Skills in engineering and Physics help them build houses, factories and even flying machines on that planet.
