Purpose:
This test is designed to check pupils’ understanding of Unit 1 “School Is Cool” from O. Karpuk’s English (Grade 5) textbook. It can be used for formative assessment at the end of the unit or for revision before a progress test.
Skills assessed:
Vocabulary – school-related words (subjects, school objects, timetable, etc.)
Grammar – verb to be, possessive adjectives, sentence structure.
Reading comprehension – understanding a short, age-appropriate text about daily school routines.
Test structure:
Vocabulary (10 points) – matching and multiple choice.
Grammar (10 points) – correct forms of to be and possessive adjectives.
Reading (10 points) – short text with True/False and Wh- questions.
Total: 30 points
You can easily adapt the test for weaker or stronger pupils by:
reducing the number of questions;
adding a short writing task (e.g., “Write 5–6 sentences about your school day”);
turning the reading part into a listening exercise, using similar audio from the textbook or your own recording.
