Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
Ukraine has wide relations with many countries of the world. Ukrainian leaders pay official visits to different countries, and during these visits a number of important political agreements are reached. First and foremost, Ukraine gives priority to developing its relations with neighbouring states.
On an ever-growing scale, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assists Ukrainian businesses in entering foreign markets. It provides diplomatic and political support and helps in searching for business partners abroad. Recently, a great number of joint ventures and various economic, cultural, and political projects have appeared in Ukraine. Ukrainian specialists in different fields improve their qualifications abroad.
Ukraine also has programmes for students’ and schoolchildren’s exchange. English, Canadian, and American children visit Ukrainian families and attend Ukrainian schools, while Ukrainian children stay with host families abroad. These exchange programmes help people understand each other better and learn about the culture and traditions of other countries.
Many Ukrainians have immigrated to Great Britain. That is why, in 1947, the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain was founded. This association has several Help Funds that support important initiatives. It also provides assistance to Ukrainian students studying at British universities. Similar associations and societies exist in many other countries.
From year to year, the number of areas of Ukraine’s international relations is growing. Ukraine is a member of many international organisations, such as the Council of Europe and the United Nations. This means that in many spheres of life Ukraine supports the policy of peace and cooperation, mutual understanding, and recognition of universal human values.
Ukraine has changed significantly in recent years. From being a “Terra Incognita” in Eastern Europe, it has become a popular tourist destination. The number of visitors is growing every year. In 2005, Ukraine joined the World Tourism Organization. Today, citizens of the European Union, the USA, Canada, and other countries are increasingly willing to visit Ukraine.
