TASK 1
Read and complete the text below. For each of the empty spaces (1-5) choose the correct answer (A, B, C, or D).
(Un)attractive
I noticed Jason once I entered the hall. Tall, handsome, well-built with a flawless complexion, he gave the impression of being supremely 1 [devastated, confident, embarrassed, humble]. His sense of humour made him stunningly attractive, and I knew lots of people who looked up 2 [at, on, of, to] him. To tell the truth, I used to be one of those who longed for his attention.
Jason always had a 3 [wide, big, round, huge] circle of friends, but what he also had was a tendency to be cruel, even ruthless at times, when he was 4 [of, out, of out, out of] sorts. He never hesitated to 5 [say, tell, speak, talk] his mind, which led to our total misunderstanding. Well, appearances can really be deceiving.

A Flat to Rent
You have just entered the university and are now planning to rent a flat. Before you set off on your journey, find out several things you need to know.
Become Sherlock Holmes for a while, as what you should do is some serious property detective work. Any noisy neighbours who play 6 [a, an, the, -] harp on Sunday mornings? Any smell of mould in the bathroom? What's the water pressure like in the shower? Do the locks work well, and when 7 [is, was, has been, had been] the last time they were replaced? What kind of flatmates 8 [do you prefer, are you preferring, have you preferred, are you preferred]? How affordable is this accommodation?
9 [Not to take, To take, Take, Do not take] photos of every broken object before taking up a place. They will come in handy when your contract ends. In case you have very firm 10 [belief, beliefs, beliefes, believes] about some issues, declare them as soon as possible.
And make your stepping into adulthood trouble-free!

TASK 3
Read and complete the text below. For each of the empty spaces (11-15) choose the correct answer (A, B, C, or D).
Choosing a Career
Choosing the right career can be the most important decision I must make this year. For most of 11 [today, todays, today's, todays'] school-leavers, its not a problem at all. But I'm still in two minds.
I see 12 [my, me, mine, myself] as a famous actor or a singer, but my dad says that neither singing 13 [not, nor, or, but] acting will help me maintain my family. He wants me to have a steady job with a future. And it looks like we will never understand each 14 [other, another, all, and other].
That's why next week, I'm visiting a career counsellor as I hope she might help me get a better idea about what kind of job suits me. I will definitely listen to her suggestions, but the decision will be 15 [myself, myselves, mine, my]. And the only thing I know for sure is that if you have a plan for your career, you'll choose jobs that push your skill sets towards your long-term objectives and foster your relationships with key people.
