Easter is one of the most beautiful holidays of the year. For many people, it is more than just colorful eggs and chocolate. It is a time when hearts become brighter, and feelings become deeper. My heart is like a pysanka — a traditional Ukrainian Easter egg — full of patterns, colors, and hidden emotions. Every year, Easter changes me a little, and I feel it in my soul.
In spring, nature wakes up. The snow melts, the sun shines stronger, and flowers begin to bloom. This beautiful change in the world around me also brings change inside me. I feel more alive and hopeful. I believe that Easter is a celebration of new life and new chances. Just like a chick hatches from an egg, people can start again with more kindness and love.
Before Easter, there are days of preparation. We clean our houses, cook special meals, and paint eggs. These activities are not only traditions; they also help us clean our thoughts and prepare our hearts. While painting a pysanka, I think about my family, my dreams, and my mistakes. Every line and color has a meaning. It’s like putting my feelings into the egg.
One important part of Easter is forgiveness. During this time, I try to forgive others and ask for forgiveness too. Sometimes it’s hard, but Easter gives me the courage to do it. I feel like a heavy stone falls from my heart when I let go of anger or sadness. That’s when I understand the real meaning of this holiday — peace and love.
Going to church on Easter morning is a special moment for many families. The bells ring loudly, and people bring baskets full of food to be blessed. There is a feeling of joy and community. Everyone smiles and says, “Christ is risen!” This greeting fills my heart with warmth. I feel connected to others in a way that is difficult to explain. It is a feeling of unity.
When we come home, we share the blessed food with family. We eat eggs, cheese, meat, and sweet bread called paska. We talk, laugh, and enjoy being together. It’s not just about the food — it’s about love. Easter teaches me to appreciate the people around me and to be grateful for what I have.
Another thing I notice is that people become kinder at Easter. We give more, help more, and think more about others. Even small acts, like visiting grandparents or giving food to someone in need, become important. These actions open my heart and show me that happiness comes from sharing and caring.
So why do I say that my heart is like a pysanka? Because, like the egg, my heart is full of beauty, hope, and mystery. Every Easter, I add new “colors” — new feelings, experiences, and lessons. The holiday helps me grow as a person. It reminds me of what really matters: family, love, faith, and kindness.
Easter may only come once a year, but its message stays with me much longer. It lights a candle in my heart that burns even when the days are gray. It makes me believe in better things, better people, and a better me.
