Animals of Australia Australia is home to many unusual animals.
What makes these animals unique?
The kangaroo is the animal that everyone knows from Australia. These cute mammals carry their babies in pouches. In Australia, you can sometimes see one hopping down the road!
Strange animals
One very strange Australian animal is the platypus. It only lives in Eastern Australia. It’s got a beak and webbed feet like a duck, but it’s got a tail like a beaver. It’s got thick, soft fur that doesn’t get wet. It lays eggs like a bird, but its babies drink milk. Is there a stranger animal anywhere else in the world?
Famous animals
One very dangerous animal in Australia is the brown snake. Its bite is 12 times worse than an Indian cobra’s. People often see this kind of snake in Australia. They usually see them on farms, but they sometimes see them near houses, too. A brown snake bite can kill a person in just a few hours. But usually these people can go to the hospital in time to get treated.
