Help the Planet Challenge
We don’t need to throw things away – we can share! Our school had a Help the Planet challenge last week. We asked Jessie and Mike what they did.
Jessie
I’m really into fashion, but buying new clothes all the time is a problem. We spend a lot of money, and then we throw them away – it’s not good for our planet. It’s better to share things. I didn’t understand this when I was little. My big sister always got new clothes, and I wore her old things, so I wasn’t happy! But now it’s different. Last week for our challenge, we all came to school with clothes that we didn’t need, and I found some amazing dresses and a jacket. We all had fun, and my friends said my old clothes were great too.
Mike
People usually throw away old smartphones and computers, but it’s bad for our planet. We don’t always need the latest technology, but we usually want it! For the challenge, my friends and I came to school with toasters, hairdryers, speakers … Our families didn’t want them, so we gave them away. Our teacher, Mr Jones, didn’t like our idea at first. He said nobody wanted old things, and he wanted to put everything in the rubbish bin! But soon he could understand that the challenge was a good idea. It was great – everyone was happy.
What does Jessie think about buying new clothes?
