Text Messaging

Text messaging, also known as SMS (short message service), first became popular at the turn of the new Millenium. This trend started in Europe and Asia, and later became popular in the USA. By 2010, Americans were sending more texts each day than making phone calls. Why do people love this new form of communication? Is it because we want to be connected with our friends and family at all times? People may have different reasons for texting,depending on their professions and lifestyles. Many people text because it is cheaper than a phone call. This is why texting is very popular in developing countries.

Texting when driving causes a lot of accidents. Therefore, the practice of texting and driving is illegal in many countries. However, many people continue to text and drive.

And what about texting when walking? Some people do not pay attention when crossing the roads or walking through busy streets. Others may text when running or taking a dog for a walk. Did texting keep you from stopping to smell the flowers today?
