HOW MUCH EXERCISE DO WE REALLY NEED ?

Ellen and David are committed to their workouts at the health club. They both go every day after work and       [use, spend, pass, waste] at least one hour doing exercise. Both are in            [shape, health, strength, well-being] and feel fit. They believe in the motto "No pain, no gain."

Andy and Pam are sitting in front of the television and watching yet another commercial for the local gym. Neither one is an athlete, nor do they really         [need, require, care, demand] to learn a sport now.

Are you more like Ellen and David or Andy and Pam? Or do you fall somewhere in between? We all know that exercise is important in            [holding, preserving, protecting, keeping] the body healthy and            [destroying, increasing, shortening, reducing] the risks of disease. But for many people, the word exercise means hours of boring, strenuous activity. Recently, however, scientific studies have found that health benefits can be           [performed, reached, achieved, fulfilled] with non-strenuous exercise. This is very              [funny, encouraging, embarrassing, confusing] news for all those people who thought they had to be athletes or work as hard as athletes to         [make, get, do, perform] exercise worth it. The new            [guidelines, ideas, directions, hints] say that every adult should do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. There are many ways to achieve this without buying expensive           [vehicles, tools, equipment, machines] or joining a health club.

Read the text below. Match choices (A—H) to (1—5). There are three choices you don't need to use.

A - Try to calm down

В - Take a look from aside

C - Excuse your offender

D - Listen to your heart

E - Identify the cause

F - Learn to talk to people

G - Be realistic in your hopes

H - Avoid arguing with others

TECHNIQUES TO CONTROL ANGER

1 ______   [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H]

There will always be a reason behind the fury that you are showing. Always try to find out what is creating the stress, the outlet of which manifests itself in the form of anger. If you discover the reason then you can find an answer to it by which you can avoid acting furious at anything and everything.

2______   [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H]

Try to see things from the perspective of others. This will make you realize what others will be feeling about you when you become angry or furious. If you manage to do it, you will begin to feel a sort of calmness inside you and you can, to an extent, prevent yourself from blasting off.

3______   [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H]

It is not that you cannot make other people understand the kind of situation you are in without showing anger. You just need to make your communication effective and to respond to things without getting angry or hostile about it.

4______   [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H]

Disagreement between what you expect and what you get will always trigger the dormant volcano in you. So, you should try to compromise with your expectations. If you can accommodate yourself to any situation, whether good or bad, up or down, you can very well keep your temper under control and not hurt others, as well as yourself.

5______   [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H]

You might not be able to forget the harm or the bitterness that had been left behind due to someone. It is always better to forgive the person than to keep hatred or bitterness against that person all throughout your life. Forgiveness is the best medicine to control your anger towards a person.
