The Half Notes: The story of a great band ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… Greg Hale, the lead singer of The Half Notes, learned to play the keyboards when he was six and he started playing the trumpet when he was ten. He loved all types of music, but he preferred pop and rock. His best friends, Carrie James and Vince Stuart, were also musicians. Carrie played the electric guitar and Vince played the drums. When the three friends were fourteen, they formed their band, The Half Notes. Carrie’s parents let them practise in their garage. They started giving concerts in the school hall and a lot of people came to listen to them. When they left school, they decided to make a music video and upload it to a music website. Carrie composed some songs and Greg sang them because he had a very good voice. But Vince wasn’t happy. He was jealous and he wanted to sing too. He started to argue with the others about the type of music that they played. In the end, he left the band. Carrie and Greg were upset, but one day they met a young drummer, Walter Davis. They got on well and he joined the band. Two months later, they recorded their first album, My True Love. Almost a million albums were sold and the band became famous. The Half Notes are giving a concert in the park this Saturday evening at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £12 for adults and £7 for children. Don’t miss this incredible band! |

Students for a better world Our planet is 0 in danger! If we don’t do something soon, we will be in trouble. We have 1 [cut, turned, cooled] down trees to make farmland. Wonderful animals like gorillas have 2 [losing, to lose, lost] their homes in the forest. Elephants and rhinos are 3 [hunted, allowed, handed] and killed for their body parts. We have 4 [produced, recycled, polluted] our rivers and seas: they are full of dangerous chemicals and rubbish. The animals 5 [then, that, than] live in them get ill and die. There are many things we can all do to help 6 [discover, protect, take] animals. For example, we mustn’t 7 [throw, give, go] away our rubbish in the forests and on the beach. We must take it home with us or put it into bins. We can also 8 [turn, join, take] or support wildlife organisations. If you want to learn more, come to the meeting in the school hall on Friday, 17 March at 5 p.m. Let’s save the planet together! |
