Many of us know people who hardly ever seem to fail even if their chances of success are low. They do little revision before an exam and get questions just about what they have studied. Or, they go to a job interview and get the job although they are not the best candidates. Fortune always seems to smile on them.
Certain of their luck
2 __
As time passes, the lucky ones begin to notice their good luck. They become more confident and are not afraid to take risks. As they decide to take up more challenges, their confidence grows, even if they do fail at times.
Knowing their luck
3 __
This is because people who consider themselves to be lucky tend to remember fortunate events and try to forget the times when they failed. This is common and completely normal as that way people build their self-esteem and focus on pleasant memories.
Confident of their skills
4 __
However, most people do not like to think that they are simply born fortunate and they would not succeed without their good luck. Studies have shown that a lot of those lucky people come to believe that they owe their success to their own talents and abilities rather than just luck.
Lucky despite difficulties
5 __
Not surprisingly, those who think of themselves as the lucky ones are optimists. They believe that their luck will continue in their lives. They hardly ever waste time worrying about any difficulties that life might bring and even if it does, they are sure to deal with them successfully.

One of my least favourite relatives is my aunt Judy. She’s in her late forties and she’s (1)__ [A divorced, B widowed, C married] _ as her husband died in a car accident two years ago. She’s quite plump and although she often says she needs to go (2)__ [A for, B into, C on] _ a diet, she usually eats really big portions. When my mum tells her she should (3)__ [A take, B go, C choose] _ for darker colours of clothes to look slimmer, she feels hurt and doesn’t speak to my mum for a few days.
What I also dislike about Judy is that she loves (4)_ [A criticising, B criticise, to criticise] __ other people, especially teenagers, including me, of course. I can’t (5)_ [A stand, B spend, C take] __ listening to her as she says how polite and hard-working young people used to be when she was a teenager. even if the stories are true, she has changed a lot since then!
