The Fly

In a 1950s novel of the same name, the character of The Fly entered the world of superheroes. But unlike Batman, Wonder Woman and others, he never made it into comics or onto the small screen. The Fly is a ¹______ (RESEARCH) for a television company who develops the ²______ (ABLE) to fly after an accident affects part of his brain. The other ³______ (CENTRE) character is a mad scientist called Electro, a villain who has an energy field around him! Like many superheroes, he has a dark, regretful side. A deeply ⁴______ (ART) man who loves nothing more than drawing and painting, he spends many hours locked away in his studio. Being shy and peaceful, he is not a ⁵______ (NATURE) superhero, so he fi nds his time as a superhero exhausting and ⁶______ (STRESS) . This is one of the main themes of the book. Like Superman and Batman, he develops a strong ⁷______ (TRUST) of the police and sometimes has to operate outside the law. The ⁸______ (ACT) occurs mostly in the fictional US city of Soach (try reading it backwards!), which provides a dark and frightening setting, recalling Gotham City in Batman.
