Dinosaurs lived on the Earth for millions of years. Dinosaurs lived on every continent in the world. Some lived on land, some in the sea and some in the sky. Scientists study dinosaur bones to find out how they lived and what they looked like.
They were more than 700 different types of dinosaurs! Some dinosaurs ate plants and others ate meat. Some walked on two legs and others walked on four legs. Some could fly and others lived in the sea. We know they were all different, but no one knows what colour or pattern they were. This is because there is no dinosaur skin left to study.
Some dinosaurs ate only meat. They ate other dinosaurs! They ate dinosaur eggs too. Some dinosaurs ate only plants. They didn't eat grass. There wasn't any grass in the world then. They ate leaves. Some small dinosaurs ate lizards and insects and some ate fish.
Dinosaurs disappeared 65 million years ago. Why was this? Some scients think that a large rock called an asteroid fell to the Earth from space. This made the Earth much colder and there was no longer any food for the dinosaurs to eat.
The most famous dinosaur is the T-Rex (Tyrannosaurus Rex). It was 14 metres long and 5,5 metres high: bigger than a house! Its strong tail helped it move quickly. But no one really knows how fast it could run. Its teeth were 36 centimetres long and it ate meat. You can see T-Rex skeletons in some museums.
The Brachiosaurus was a huge dinosaur. It had four legs and a long neck and a long tail. The Brachiosaurus was very heavy. It walked very slawly and it didn't run. It ate plants and leaves. It couldn't hunt animals.
The Struthiomimus had two thin legs and a long neck. It wasn't huge. It could run very quickly. It didn't eat either plants or leaves. It ates insects and lizards.
Sauropods were giants! Sauropods were very big dinosaurs. They had four legs, long necks and small heads. Also Sauropods had three horns on their heads. They lived on land. They couldn't swim and fly. The Sauropods didn't hunt and didn't eat either meat or insects. They ate plants.
Some Pterosaurs were very big and some were very small. They lived in the air and they could fly. They had two legs and two big wings. Pterosaurs could swim and they hunted fish in the sea. They ate insects, too.
The Saltopus was small, like a chicken. Some, like the Kronosaurus, could swim. We think all dinosaurs could make a lot of strange noises!
