The good side of shopping online

Today, some people do their shopping on the Internet. They buy all kinds of things from books to holidays and even houses. Online shopping is very easy and quick. You can usually pay with a credit card or by bank transfer. The goods are sent directly to your home. This is great if you don't have a car or if you're very busy. Another advantage is that you can often find what you want more easily than in a shop. There are no queues and you don't have to wait for a cashier. Finally, online shopping can be cheaper because companies don't have to rent expensive shops in the city centre. They can sell their products for less money.

The bad sides of shopping online

However, online shopping is not always good. One problem is that you can't look at the things you want to buy. For example, you can't touch the fish in the fishmonger's. You can't smell the flowers in the florist's. You can't try on clothes before you buy them. Some people also think it's dangerous to use your credit card on the Internet. It's true that there are criminals who try to get your card details. But most online companies are very careful about security. Another disadvantage is that you sometimes have to wait a long time for your order to arrive. If you need something immediately, online shopping is not a good idea.

Shopping in the future

So, what will we do in the future? Will there be any shops at all? Some people think that we will do all our shopping online. They say that in the future, we won't even need to go to the supermarket to buy food. We will just order everything on the Internet and it will arrive at our house. Other people don't agree. I'm not sure what will happen. I think there will always be shops, but maybe they will change. Perhaps in the future, there will be fewer big supermarkets. Maybe there will be more small shops again, like greengrocer's or fishmonger's. And perhaps there will be new kinds of shops too, like sweet shops or dairy shops.
