I quietly unlocked the door and went into the flat. (1)___ I nearly fell over Mark’s sports bag, which he’d carelessly left in the middle of the hall. His shoes and tennis stuff were lying all around the floor. I took off my coat and went to the kitchen to have some tea. It was the same old story there. (2)___ Food leftovers were on the table and the bin was so full that some rubbish had fallen over it onto the floor. Angry, I dashed to the living room, which I’d carefully tidied on Friday before leaving the place. The awful smell of cigarette smoke hit my nose as soon as I opened the door. I’d asked him a thousand times not to smoke in the flat. The living room wasn’t any better than the kitchen.
