Урок-КВК “Who knows English proverbs best”
1
Competition 1. Introducing the team members and the captain; explaining the team names
2
Competition II. Teams take turns showing pictures of the type "What does it mean?". The opposing teams guess which proverb is illustrated in each picture.
3
Competition III. The leader reads a story. Team members choose an ending of the story from several suggested ones. For example:
On Monday I got up late, so I didn't have any time for breakfast. Also, I missed the bus, so I was late for school! Things only got worse after that!
On Tuesday evening I planned to revise because I had an important exam the next day. But in the end, | went on an online music forum and had a stupid argument about the Eurovision Song Contest! As a result, I didn't do any revision and I did really badly in the exam.
On Wednesday I went out without a coat or an umbrella. In the afternoon it started to rain a lot and I got really wet as I walking back from school!
Then yesterday my mum and dad didn't give me any pocket money because I haven't helped at home all week. We had a big argument about it, but, to be honest, l've been really lazy! So, today I couldn't go to the open-air swimming pool with my friends because I didn't have any money. And it's been a beautiful, sunny day! In the end I stayed at home all day and ate a lot of chocolate because I was feeling sad. Now I have a bad stomach ache!
For example:
The devil is not so black as it is painted.
All is well that ends well.
He who never climbed never fell.
The weakest goes to the wall.
He who laughs last laughs longest.
4
Competition IV. Each team shows a scene prepared in advance. The opponents guess the title of the sketch-pantomime or the voiced dramatization.
5
Competition V. Twenty proverbs are cut into two halves.
Teams select three experts who must assemble the cut proverbs in the shortest possible time. The completed proverbs are read aloud.
For example:
The customer … (is always right).
Nothing succeeds … (like success).
A great ship 🚢 asks … (deep waters).
All is well … (that ends well).
Charity brings … (at home) 🏡.
6
Competition VI. Teams are asked to choose a card with two proverbs written on it. For example:
The leader suggests revealing the meaning of these proverbs by means of pantomime, and the opposing teams must guess which proverbs were shown.
For example:
When kids stand still they have done something ill.
Don’t sell the bearʼs skin before you have caught the bear 🐻.
Curiosity killed the cat 🐈⬛.
A little fire 🔥 is quickly trodden out.
The longer we live, the more we learn.
Take the rough with the smooth.
