The first lesson is very important for the teacher. This lesson can show a character of a teacher from the good or the bad side. Students form their first impression of the teacher, his knowledge of the subject, his methods of work.
What about the teacher? The teacher also forms his first impression of the students. Sometimes it is quite erroneous. Teachers' impressions of students are influenced by the following factors: students' behavior, students' attitude to the teacher, their knowledge, information about students from other teachers. The teacher must be careful conclusion about knowledge and behavior of students.
In my opinion, on the first lesson, the teacher should be guided by the English proverbs: «Always put your best foot forward» and also he should remember what other English proverbs teach: «Honesty is the best policy» and everything will be fine.
On the first lesson, the teacher can complete the following tasks:
1) introduce yourself to the class;
2) get to know the students;
3) learn about their goals, wishes, interest in the subject;
4) formulate a "code of honor" and introduce students to the concept of academic virtue;
5) conduct knowledge assessment (through surveys, tests, essays);
6) create a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the class with mutual respect;
7) motivate students to study;
8) formulate learning objectives, explain the course structure, the main objectives of the course, the form of work in a classroom and at home;
9) explain the evaluation system.
