Т: Today we are having a summary lesson devoted to the most significant
historical places of London. So, we’ll summarize the material about this city and your knowledge about interesting places of London. Today we will practice your speaking and listening skills. By the end of the lesson we’ll be able to practice speaking about our topic, to operate facts about this country. Now, let’s begin our lesson. As you know, the theme of our lesson is the famous places of interest in London. We’ll revise some material about the most significant historical places of London. You prepared some presentation about London and then you’ll show them.

Т: As you can see, London is a great historical and cultural centre of the country. It is one of the largest and the most interesting cities in the world. You have got a lot of interesting and useful information about sights of London. There is so much to see in London that even Londoners can always find new places of interest in their capital. They like to say: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”. Do you know the sights of London?
We’ll play a game “Do you know London?”. Guess what place of
interest it is.
This is the place where all English kings and queens were crowned. Many of the kings and queens, scientists, poets are buried here. (Westminster Abbey)
This building stands unchanged on the Thames for nearly 1000 years. Many centuries it has been a fortress, palaсe, prison. They say that London is the key to England and this building is the key to London. Today it is a national monument and museum. (London Tower).
It is the London home of the Queen.The changing of the Guard takes place every day in front of it. (Buckingham Palace).
It has a very big clock on one of two Towers. It’s the most famous symbol of London. (Big Ben).
It is the best-known square in the city. In the centre of this square there is a monument knows as Nelson’s Column.(Trafalger Square).
It is the greatest of all English churches, dates back to the 17th century. It took the architect Sir Christopher Wren 35 years to build this magnificent building. (St. Paul’s Cathedral).
