Nouns: Countable and Uncountable

Іменники (nouns) в англійській мові поділяються на злічувані (countable) та незлічувані (uncountable).

1. Countable Nouns (Злічувані іменники)

Це іменники, які можна порахувати (one, two, three...) та мати форму однини і множини.

Приклади:
apple → an apple, two apples
sandwich → a sandwich, three sandwiches
roll → a roll, four rolls

Вживання:

• Артиклі: a/an (в однині)

• Множина: додаємо -s або змінюємо слово (one tomato – two tomatoes)

• Питання і заперечення: використовуємо many

  • ❓ How many oranges do you have?

  • ❌ I don’t have many oranges.

2. Uncountable Nouns (Незлічувані іменники)

Це іменники, які не можна порахувати окремими предметами. Вони зазвичай означають рідини, сипкі речовини або абстрактні поняття.

Приклади:
milk (молоко)
rice (рис)
chocolate (шоколад)
bread (хліб)
salt (сіль)

Вживання:

• Без артиклів "a/an"

• Питання і заперечення: використовуємо much

  • ❓ How much milk do you need?

  • ❌ I don’t have much milk.

• Щоб зробити такі слова злічуваними, використовуємо мірні слова:

  • a bottle of water

  • a piece of cheese

  • a cup of tea

3. Examples in Sentences

✅ Countable:

• I have two apples.

• She bought some sandwiches.

✅ Uncountable:

• We need some flour for the cake.

• There isn’t much sugar in my tea.

📌 Підсумок:

• Countable nouns можна порахувати та вони мають множину.

• Uncountable nouns не можна порахувати, і вони не мають множини.

• Для незлічуваних іменників використовуємо мірні слова (a cup of, a piece of, a bottle of).

• У питальних і заперечних реченнях: many для злічуваних, much для незлічуваних.
