It is known that for any country its culture is important. In the modern world, people sometimes forget about visiting theaters, museums, galleries, etc., but this is where the cultural development of an individual begins. Our city also has a number of wonderful cultural institutions that impress with their history and uniqueness.
The Zhytomyr Philharmonic is a gem of our city and is located right in its heart. It has been functioning to this day, where stage masters share their artistry with the people. Back in the 19th century, it was built as a theater, designed by the renowned architect Ivan Stromm. The hall can accommodate 600 spectators, and precise calculations ensure excellent acoustics.
In the 20th century, it resumed its work and obtained the status of a regional state philharmonic. In its time, the group of Mykola Starytskyi and Mykhailo Kropyvnytskyi, as well as Maria Zankovetska and Ivan Karpenko-Kary, toured on its stage. Nowadays, the philharmonic is named after the famous pianist Sviatoslav Richter and is recognized as an architectural monument.
In 1966, which became a significant year for the philharmonic, a new building for the music and drama theater was constructed. It delights our city dwellers and captivates everyone with its artistic program.
