Target Age and Level:
8th grade students, A2-B1 level.
Lesson Duration:
45 minutes.
Lesson Plan:
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Greeting students.
Announcing the lesson topic.
Warm-up activity: Each student says their favorite English word and explains its meaning. For example:
"I like the word 'adventure' because it means an exciting experience."
"My favorite word is 'creative' because it describes someone who has great ideas."
2. Main Activity (30 minutes)
Game: "Guess the Word"
Preparation:
The teacher prepares word cards (nouns, verbs, adjectives based on the lesson theme). Examples:
Nouns: "elephant," "library," "pizza."
Verbs: "run," "whisper," "jump."
Adjectives: "happy," "strong," "tall."
The class is divided into two teams.
Game Rules:
A player from one team picks a card with a word (without showing it to others).
The player describes the word in English without using the word itself. For example:
"It's a place where you can borrow books" (Answer: "library").
"It's a large animal with a trunk" (Answer: "elephant").
"It means to move very fast" (Answer: "run").
The team must guess the word within 30 seconds.
If the team guesses correctly, they get 1 point.
The team with the most points wins.
3. Conclusion (10 minutes)
Discussion of difficult words.
Each student names a new word they learned and uses it in a sentence. For example:
"I learned the word 'whisper' today. It means to speak very quietly."
"The word 'strong' means having a lot of power. My dad is very strong."
The teacher summarizes the game results and rewards the winning team (e.g., stickers, certificates, or extra credit).
Homework Assignment:
Write five sentences using the new words from the game. Example:
"The library is my favorite place because I love reading books."
"The elephant is the largest land animal."
"I whispered to my friend during the movie."
"My brother is very strong and can lift heavy boxes."
"Pizza is my favorite food because it is so delicious."
Additional Ideas:
Use mobile apps to generate words.
Conduct the game in a "whisper challenge" format, where the word is passed along the chain.
Have students act out verbs instead of describing them for an extra challenge.
This game makes the lesson engaging, interactive, and beneficial for students!
