Family meals are literally linked to better grades.

📚 Studies show family meals are literally linked to better grades. Children who regularly eat dinner with their families tend to perform better in school, according to a Columbia University study conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA). Researchers found that teens who had five or more family meals per week were significantly more likely to earn top grades and exhibit strong communication and vocabulary skills. The study highlights the role of consistent family interactions in creating a stable, supportive environment that boosts emotional health and academic confidence—key contributors to educational success.Beyond academics, the benefits of family dinners extend to a child’s overall well-being. Regular mealtime conversations offer children a safe space to express themselves, learn family values, and develop critical thinking skills. Importantly, the research also found that teens who shared more meals with their families were less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as smoking or drinking. In an era dominated by busy schedules and screen time, this study emphasizes that something as simple as eating together can profoundly shape a child’s future.Source: Columbia University, National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA).
